Manifesto
Why we build open source tools for the hardware the global economy runs on — and why it matters.
Open source runs the world. But not on the hardware that matters.
The most critical systems on Earth — core banking, healthcare records, global retail logistics — run on IBM Power Systems. They process 87% of all credit card transactions. Every top-10 bank depends on them.
Meanwhile, the best open source software is developed, tested, and certified only for x86. The hardware running the global economy is invisible to the open source community. If you want modern tools on AIX or ppc64le, you navigate IBM's consulting cycle — expensive, slow, and gatekept.
LibrePower exists to close that gap.
Open source belongs on every architecture
If software is truly open, it should run on the infrastructure the world depends on — not just commodity x86 chips. IBM Power is the backbone of global finance, healthcare, and logistics. Modern tools like fzf, ripgrep, MariaDB, and Ansible deserve to be there, installable with a single dnf install.
Resilience is a feature, not a luxury
Six nines of availability. 31.5 seconds of unplanned downtime per year. That's what IBM Power delivers — and what most cloud providers can't match. When paired with certified open source, you get the most resilient software stack possible. And it shouldn't cost a fortune to get there.
Certification should be accessible
IBM's AIX Toolbox provides 400+ packages "as is" with no official support. Bull Freeware shut down. Other community repositories are aging. LibrePower provides independent, actively maintained, certified open source — from "Works on Power" to full enterprise validation — without vendor consulting overhead.
The future of enterprise is not "cloud first" — it's "resilience first."
LibrePower is the transmission mechanism between open source innovation and the hardware the global economy depends on.
