Yes — every package is free, GPG-signed, and always will be. Enterprise support (SLA-backed response times, custom ports, compliance docs, hardening) is a paid service from SIXE. Your subscription funds the engineers who maintain the public repo — so it stays free for everyone.
Which IBM i versions are supported?
Packages are built and tested on IBM i 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5 running PASE, and verified on the 7.6 technology refresh where applicable. All binaries are compiled natively for ppc64 — not cross-compiled, not generic ports.
Do I use yum to install packages?
Yes — on IBM i, yum is the package manager in PASE. The install script pins the LibrePower signing key for you on first use, and from then on yum install <package> works the way you'd expect.
What's actually unique here — what do I get that I don't already have?
Two things. First, the scientific Python stack — numpy, pandas and scipy — natively compiled and verified on IBM i. That means statistics, Monte Carlo, optimization and anomaly detection running directly on the system of record, with no data egress. Second, 40+ additional modern tools: API gateways (Caddy, KrakenD), the FastAPI stack, native observability exporters for QSYS2 and QHST, modern CLI tools (ripgrep, fzf, eza, delta), security tooling (cosign, age, sops, restic), and iSMIT, an admin TUI built specifically for IBM i.
Does Grafana run on IBM i?
Not today, and you don't need it to. LibrePower ships a native IBM i exporter (librepower-ibmi-observability) that publishes QSYS2 metrics and QHST logs in Prometheus/Loki format. Grafana itself runs wherever you already have it — Linux, AIX, Kubernetes — and visualizes those metrics over the network. A native Grafana port for IBM i is on the roadmap.
What does enterprise support cover?
